SavorCrew vs Homebase

Homebase is free for one location. If that is you, this page says stay.

Price at a glance

SavorCrew

$9.99 / venue / mo · everything included, every tier

Homebase

Free for 1 location · paid tiers from ~$25–100 / location / mo

Homebase pricing characterised 2026-09-25 from their published plans. Three things to read carefully: the free tier is capped at one location, the paid tiers are priced per location, and payroll is a separate add-on with a monthly fee plus a per-employee charge. Annual billing lowers the monthly rate. SavorCrew is $9.99 per venue per month with nothing gated behind a tier.

Where SavorCrew is different

Tip math with an audit trail on every distribution — pooled and tip-share both, on the $9.99 tier, with the arithmetic kept for the day somebody disputes a payout.

Training that is part of the schedule: lessons with rich formatting, auto-generated flash cards for study, quizzes, and a practice health inspection your team can walk before a real inspector does.

Opening and closing checklists built in, not sold as an add-on and not a shared note.

Labor hours feed SavorVitals prime cost, so scheduled hours become a cost percentage beside food. A standalone scheduler has no way to do that.

One price per venue with nothing tier-gated — the geofence, the tip audit and the AI draft are on the cheapest plan.

Where Homebase might fit better

You run one location and you want to pay nothing. Homebase free genuinely covers scheduling, a time clock and team messaging, with no employee cap. That is a real product, not a trial.

You want hiring in the same tool — job posts, applicant tracking, onboarding paperwork. SavorCrew has none of that and is not building it.

You want payroll actually filed rather than exported. Homebase sells payroll processing; SavorCrew generates Gusto, ADP and QuickBooks files and never files a return.

You need a large existing integration ecosystem you already depend on.

Switching from Homebase

There are exactly two moments when the free plan stops being the right answer, and neither of them is a feature list.

What imports

The first is the second venue: Homebase free covers one location, so venue two moves you onto a per-location paid tier. The second is tips — the moment a pooled or tip-share distribution is disputed and you need to show the arithmetic. Until one of those happens, staying is the correct decision and we would rather you made it.

Day one

If one of them has happened: export your staff list as a CSV and bring it over — names, roles and wages land on your roster. Day one your crew claims their accounts, sees the week on their phones and clocks in with one tap.

No lock-in

No contract, no setup fee, and the price you sign up at is locked for life. Your roster and payroll files export on the way out.

The honest line

What you lose: hiring and applicant tracking, payroll filing, Homebase's integration list, and your history — old punches and tip runs do not import. Keep your Homebase exports; the SavorCrew audit trail starts the day you switch.

Switching questions, answered.

Is Homebase really free?

For one location, yes — scheduling, a mobile time clock and team messaging with no cap on employees. It is a genuine free tier rather than a trial. Geofenced clock-in, tip tools and the advanced reporting sit on paid plans, and the free plan ends at your second location.

Should I switch from Homebase to SavorCrew?

Not if you run one venue, pay nothing today and do not pool tips. That is the honest answer and it is most of the people asking. The two things that change it are a second venue — which moves you onto per-location paid pricing anyway — and needing a defensible audit trail on tip distributions.

How much is Homebase per location?

Free for a single location, with paid tiers running roughly $25 to $100 per location per month depending on plan and whether you bill annually, read 2026-09-25 from their published pricing. Payroll is a separate add-on with a monthly fee plus a per-employee charge. SavorCrew is $9.99 per venue per month with no tier gating.

Does SavorCrew do hiring or payroll like Homebase?

No to both, deliberately. There is no applicant tracking and no payroll filing — SavorCrew generates payroll files from closed pay periods for Gusto, ADP and QuickBooks and stops there. If hiring and filing in one tool is what you want, Homebase is the better buy and this is us saying so.

What does SavorCrew do that Homebase does not?

Tip distribution with a kept audit trail on the cheapest tier; opening and closing checklists; training lessons with flash-card study and quizzes; a practice health inspection staff can walk before a real one; and a labor feed into prime cost so scheduled hours show up as a percentage beside food cost.
